1. Who can use the Israel Center?
All currently enrolled students are invited to use the facility free of charge. Faculty, staff, alumni, student spouses, and designated friends of the University must pay either a seasonal or an annual gymnasium fee to work out in the center. Students and gym members may also bring guests to the facility for a nominal day fee.
2. Where can I change into workout clothes to use the fitness center?
Personal lockers in the gym are available for a modest fee. Please check for details in the gymnasium’s membership office, located in the main lobby.
3. What do the flags and banners in the center represent?
The banners in the weight training area of the room represent the 12 undergraduate residential colleges of Yale University. The banners in the cardiovascular section (middle section) of the facility are for each of Yale’s graduate and professional schools. In the former group, Calhoun, Davenport, Morse, and Stiles Colleges are among those represented. The latter group includes nursing, medicine, law, forestry, and architecture, and several others.
4. What is towel service at the Payne Whitney Gymnasium?
Members may elect this convenient option for a reasonable term fee. Simply stated we provide you with a fresh, clean towel when you arrive at PWG. Although we dispense towels ‘one-at-a-time’ you may use as many as necessary just revisit the Lobby Desk and trade in the soiled towel for a fresh one. At just pennies a day, towel service is a very worthwhile and smart choice!
5. Are there lockers available at the gym?
A limited number of lockers are available for rent during the selected membership term. Rental prices are based on locker size - half, full, or oversized - and selected membership term. Rental agreements terminate when the membership term expires and all items in the locker must be removed. Personal Items must be removed from the locker or they will be discarded. Coin-Operated Transient Lockers (daily use with no over night storage) are available and located on the 3rd floor.
6. Can I bring a friend or relative?
Bring a friend with you on your next visit and show off the PWG. Members may purchase daily passes for up to two adult guests per day at the Membership Office or Lobby Desk. The guests accompanied throughout the visit by the sponsoring member are entitled to exercise or work out in the facilities within the appropriate guidelines. There is a $10 fee per guest. Sorry, guests are not permitted to take PE Classes or participate in any other planned programs.
