PWG Summer 2022 COVID Guidelines

Below are the COVID Guidelines for the Payne Whitney Gymnasium (PWG) for Spring 2022. Members who do not comply with the information below, signage posted throughout the facility or staff instruction will be asked to leave the facility and may be subject to membership suspension and University sanctions. Guidelines are subject to change without notice.  

PWG Access & Vaccination Requirement - Updated April 28th

COVID Vaccinations & BoostersCurrently, PWG Membership is open to fully vaccinated current Yale Students, Faculty& Staff, Alumni and individuals within their households. Unvaccinated Yale students, faculty and staff are not permitted to enter PWG. All PWG members who are eligible to receive their COVID Vaccination Booster must do so in order to maintain their membership. 

Yale Faculty and Staff - Memberships and access to PWG is open to fully vaccinated Yale faculty and staff.  Yale faculty and staff must provide proof of their vaccination (and if eligible their booster shot).  Faculty and Staff Members can upload their Vaccination Booster record here.

Yale Alumni and Household Members of Current PWG Members - We are happy to welcome back our Yale Alumni and Household Sub-Members beginning Tuesday, May 3rd. 

Yale Retirees - We are happy to welcome back our Retirees beginning Wednesday, June 1st.  

Community Memberships - We will continue the suspension of  community memberships. 

Member Access - To access PWG members are required to present their Yale ID at the Welcome Desk. There are no exceptions to this policy. 

Face Coverings & Masks - Updated March 14th 

Current Masking Guidance ends on Sunday, March 20th: All members are required to wear a face covering at all times, unless actively hydrating, swimming, or showering.   A cloth mask is not acceptable protection, except when worn as an over-mask when double-masking.  3-ply or ASTM masks are recommended. 

Updated Masking Guidance begins on Monday, March 21st: Following the Updated Masking Guidance from the University, face coverings will be optional for members visiting PWG and individuals participating in Campus Recreation programs beginning on Monday, March 21st. As per the Updated Masking Guidance, masking is still required for those who have COVID-19 symptoms or test positive, are a close contact of someone who has tested positive, and/or have a university-sponsored exemption to vaccination. Masks are strongly encouraged for those who are fully vaccinated but have not yet received a booster.

3-ply masks are available at the Welcome Desk and Israel Fitness Center. Please ask staff for assistance.

Social Distancing - Updated January 6th 

As all members are vaccinated, they may fully engage in all activities. Social distancing should be maitained whenever possible. 

Wiping Down Equipment  -Updated January 6th

Members should wipe all shared objects and key equipment touch points with disinfectant wipes before and after use.

Suspended Services - Updated January 6th

Saunas will remain closed for Summer 2022.
